10 top tips for improving your spoken English

Samyak speaking is one of the most fun and rewarding parts of learning English. Once you can speak even a little English, there are loads of ways to improve your skills quickly while having tons of fun. Here are ten top tips for improving your spoken English and having a great time while you do it!

Speak, speak, speak!

Be confident and speak as often as possible to as many people as you possibly can! Do not be shy to make mistakes! The more you practice the better and more confident you will become in your pronunciation and vocabulary. Remember, speaking is a skill like learning a musical instrument or new sport – the only way you can get good is to actually do it!

Use technology

A smartphone can be a powerful tool for learning languages. Use it to record yourself speaking then listen back to see how your English sounds to other people. Make the most of all your favourite productivity apps to organise your practice time and make a note of all the new words you learn.

Listen

Listen to news bulletins and songs in English to listen to the pronunciation of words. You can also learn new words and expressions this way. The more you listen, the more you learn! Try copying what you hear to practise your pronunciation and learn which words in a sentence are stressed.

Read out loud

Read the newspaper or a magazine out to yourself. You could even find a script for your favourite TV show and act it out! This is a great way to practise pronunciation because you only need to concentrate on making sure you English sounds great and don’t need to worry about sentence structure or grammar.

Learn a new word every day

Choose a word you would like to work on and use practice it in different sentences. Use the word until you have learnt it and keep using it regularly.

Watch films

Watch movies in English and pay attention to new vocabulary and pronunciation. Imitate the actors and have fun with it.

Make friends

Make friends with English speakers or others learning to speak English and compare notes. Talk about things that you have learnt and exchange ideas.

Do interesting activities in English

Take a cooking course in English or join a book club! Anything you enjoy doing, make sure you do it and communicate it in English. Using English to talk about things you enjoy will make practising a positive experience.

Have a debate

Debate all the topics that interest you with friends in English. Try to use as much vocabulary as you can to get your point across and listen to the other arguments carefully so you can argue against them effectively.

Use a dictionary

Online dictionaries often have audio examples so you can check your pronunciation and there are lots of great dictionary apps that you can take everywhere with you on your smartphone. Make sure not to become too reliant on these tools, though. Have a go at saying the words first then check afterwards to see if you were right!

How to Improve Written & Spoken English

Spoken English in Jaipur is a complex language full of rules and accompanying exceptions. Many individuals who seek to learn English later in life struggle because of the relative complexity of the language as a whole. If you are currently muddling through the process of developing your written and spoken English skills, there are some things that you can do to help yourself master this language more effectively and rapidly.

  • Read regularly. By reading you not only have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the English language but also become more familiar with the different types of sentence structures that can be employed. Read an assortment of written works, including novels, newspapers and magazines. If still working to develop your pronunciation skills, consider reading orally.

  • Ask those around you to correct you. While correction can be hard to take correction, you will likely not learn without it. Ask your native English-speaking friends to point out errors they notice. When they do point these errors out, take the correction well instead of becoming defensive.

  • Review written works with an individual skilled in writing in English. Compose a draft of a written work as well as you can, then improve upon it with assistance. Instead of simply passing the draft onto another individual and asking him to look at it, sit down with him and read over it with him, asking him to tell you what to change and then make the changes yourself. Doing this will help you internalize the corrections.

  • Compose a list of common mistakes. Place this list in the front of your binder or planner. Add to the list as you notice errors. A great way to add items to this list is to review class assignments that are handed back and include things that your teacher commented upon.

  • Focus on one mistake at a time until you have explored all of the listed mistakes. Dedicate approximately a week to each mistake and try your hardest during this period of time not to make the mistake either in speech or in writing. By doing this, you can make it easier to correct the mistake than it would be if you were attempting to focus on a whole collection of mistakes at the same time.

How to improve your spoken English

Improve Your English Speaking and English Pronunciation Skills

My first piece of advice is not to get too hung up on trying to sound like a native speaker. Would you start learning the piano in an attempt to sound like Mozart? The first rule of speaking English is to learn to speak clearly and concisely and remember you won't just be speaking to native speakers: There are roughly 380 million native speakers out there, but as many as a billion people speak English as a second language, you do the math.

Try to avoid using idioms and slang (I always say learn it, but don't use it). It might sound clever to say "You're barking up the wrong tree," but if you use it in the wrong situation, or if the other person simply doesn't understand you, you'll only look silly when you try to explain what you meant to say, or what it actually means.

There's also a saying in English Spoken Course in Jaipur "Have you swallowed a dictionary?" It is applicable to anyone who uses long, complicated words when a shorter word will do. Short sentences are just as good (if not better) than long rambling explanations. The value in what you have to say is what you say, not how clever you look or sound when you say it. So it's a good idea to try to use simple, clear vocabulary, KISS - keep it short and simple,

English speaking tips

Get over any fear you might have of making mistakes. You will make mistakes.
Be patient with yourself. Learning any language can be frustrating, but frustration won't help you, so let it go.
Grasp every opportunity you have to speak with people in English.
Talk to friends who are also learning English. Go out together for coffee and only speak English to each other!
Read short stories out loud and try to see, say and hear the words to reinforce your memory. Record yourself and play it back later, how does it sound?

Find English speaking friends:-
  • You might not be able to find any friendly native speakers where you live, but If you can't find anyone who'll actually help you, don't worry, you'll still be able to figure out if they can understand you.
  • Get onto Second Life. It's the one place I've found where you're guaranteed a conversation - it's an adult environment, and you won't always want to talk to the people you meet, but for every blood sucking vampire who asks if they can bite you, there are at least ten, nice people who just want to socialise. If you want a list of nice places to go, just contact me on the forum.
  • There are several internet based voice chat programmes out there: Yahoo! Messenger | Google Hangouts | Skype and I'm sure there are lots more.
  • Look for people with the same interests as you. It's no good asking everyone you meet to help you with your English, rather develop natural friendships based on your hobbies etc. Eventually you will make friends and they will be much more likely to give you correction / guidance.
  • Join an English club or conversation group. Around the world there are many English speaking clubs, these clubs aren't just for expats but for people interested in the English way of life. They can be friendly and fun. For a list of English clubs click here. Check magazines as well as your phone book, your local newspaper and your local university. Or if there isn't one in your area - start one! Place an advertisement in your newspaper for people interested in starting a group or go to Meetup.
  • Visit an Irish/English/Australian theme pub or British food shop, you can usually find one in the larger cities. Often, the waiters and waitresses come from English-speaking countries, the menu is often in English too!
  • Once your English is good enough, go shopping in some tourist areas. You'll find lots of shop assistants speak very good English.
  • If you can travel to an English speaking country, do it.

Singing

Try singing along to English songs. With friends or in the privacy of your own bathroom. Lots of the major games consoles have karaoke games nowadays, like Sing Star on the Playstation.
On the internet :- You can speak to me on Skype or in Second Life (see the forum calendar for times and dates) - you can also listen to or chat with other learners and native speakers there, or join one of the many social networking sites. They are all free, so there are no more excuses.
On the network:- Use the pronunciation pages to improve your understanding. Use my Voice Thread to practise tongue twisters, introductions etc.
On this site:- You can find some karaoke resources and ideas on the learn English through songs page.
On the Network: You can find the words to some popular songs on the English magazine.

2. You may have noticed that over the past few years, fluent verbal communication in English has come to symbolize a superior personality. The mind is a powerful tool. Use it. Speak to yourself in English and let your thoughts about everything from the local train to the shopping list be in English. Even if you do nothing else, do this!

2. Do not translate from your native language to English
If you do not know the correct sentence or phrase in English, do not ever translate from your native tongue. Doing this will not take you any further in your learning plus you end up becoming a joke. So, find out what the correct usage is by reading or asking someone.

3. Speak English at every opportunity
Don’t worry if it doesn’t sound perfect at first. It’s like driving – initially, the traffic lights and other vehicles will give you a scare but after some practice, you can do it without thinking.

4. Learn sentences or phrases – don’t concentrate on single words
Instead of concentrating on learning new words by themselves, try using them in a sentence. Learn as sentences, not single words. The aim is to get comfortable speaking; improving your vocabulary is a different lesson.

5. Listen to others speaking English
Listen, listen, listen. Whether it is the radio or the television or a movie. Or a colleague or teacher who speaks good English. Keep listening. This will help you improve pronunciation and accent. Do not imagine that your speaking skills can be enhanced through reading alone.

6. Learn how to say the same thing differently
As with other languages, so in English, one sentence can be framed in multiple ways, all conveying the same meaning. Learning these will help you form clearer and simpler sentences.

7. Make sure there is someone to correct you if you go wrong
Making mistakes is natural. So there must be someone to correct your English. Speaking it incorrectly for a long time will imprint it in the brain and it’ll be hard to correct later.

8. Do not lose confidence
It is common to lose your drive along the way but if you keep seeing results, no matter how tiny, it will keep up your motivation. So keep note of the little achievements and soon, they’ll add up to a big one – fluent spoken English!

9. Keep it simple
Do not complicate your goals by trying to accomplish too much. Reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary – they will all come in due course. Your goal is to speak better English. Stick to it.

10. And most of all, have fun!
If you imagine learning English as a fun contest or race, the sooner you will reach the end. So take joy in it and enjoy each moment of learning. If you look upon it as torture, that is what it will be and you wouldn’t make much progress.

How to Improve Your English Level

There are five points, number 1 is the most important.
5) Make English your hobby and have fun!
Study at least two or three hours per week.
Learn English through other activities:
Reading there are graded books in English for your level.
Internet begin with the activities on this website and on the links page.
Songs in English - take your favorite songs, download the lyrics (the words) from Google and sing them again and again until your neighbors scream: “STOP!!”.
DVDs many films are also in English with subtitles in your language.
Magazines there are specialized magazines for English Spoken students.
Travel travel motivates you to improve your level because you need English for everything.
4) Be constant!
Don’t stop for long periods of time such as in the summer and don’t do too much! It is also important to study at least 3 hours every week. To progress very well, you should study at least 5 hours per week.
3) Be as disciplined and organized as possible with your classes!
Free conversation is necessary and so is more controlled speaking (in practice activities in class). However, it is better to balance conversation with other activities in your classes or outside of your classes. In a "one-to-one" class, you should do all of the homework, reading and vocabulary studying outside of your class and then comment on the homework in the class. It is very important for you to do the homework that your teacher assigns you and it is very important for you to be punctual to your classes.
2) Get a teacher or attend a class!
It’s easier to be constant, disciplined and organized if you have a teacher. It’s more difficult to study English alone. Also, it is more difficult to learn how to “speak” English if you don’t have an English teacher to speak with.
1) It is your responsibility to reach (to get) your objectives!
Learning English is your responsibility and not the responsibility of your teacher. You must have initiative in your classes! The teacher cannot learn or study English for you. For example, you often have to study and learn vocabulary alone.
With point number one, you will develop all of the other points. If you apply these five points with long-term motivation, you will learn English or any language. Put simply: if you spend more time studying, you will learn more. If you are very interested, you will continue studying.

Why do we need to learn English ?

Of course, one of the reasons why we need to be able to speak English nowadays is because the world is becoming smaller. Thanks to the Internet and our developing global economy more and more people are using English as a common way to communicate with each other.

So now it has become unavoidable that companies and large businesses will need to employ people who can speak more than their own native language. That is where English comes in…It is now officially considered as an International language.

Learning anything is difficult and English is no exception. However, there are ways to make the situation easier. I have come up with my own list of general rules for learning English.

You must view Spoken English in Jaipur as a part of your body just as you would, an arm or a leg. It must become a part of your everyday life.

Daily practice is very important. Do not worry about making mistakes….in fact the more mistakes your make the more you will learn from them. Just like learning to ride a bike. Sometimes you fall off. So what do you do? You get back on and try again.

Do not look at English as just another subject. Your attitude to English and the way you view it will decide how well you progress. Just as we say in English “No pain…No gain”.

The two most important words to remember when learning English are…. Practice and Confidence.

Practice English everyday and be confident. You will find that the more you use English the better your English become and more confident you become then the more you will want to use it.

Make it a rule to tell yourself… I can dot it … I can dot it … I can do it…

Please remember,Samyak lesson are aimed at everyone. So hopefully you will find something useful in each one. May be you will find some of the words we use very easy. But you will also see some words that may be new to you.

Remember…. Samyak lessons are aimed at everyone. Learning English should be a fun experience. Join Samyak, we will help you improve.

More Spoken English Practice

Reading a newspaper is an excellent way to practice spoken English. Most newspapers use important English vocabulary words. A newspaper will give you many common political, scientific, economic and technical words. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exams often use words that are frequently found in English newspapers.
Using a newspaper to study spoken English will require more than merely reading it. You must read the newspaper frequently and read it aloud. You must always look up the words you do not know in your dictionary and attempt to use these new words and expressions when you speak.
  1. Print an article from a newspaper web site. (Always select a newspaper from the country using the English you are studying.)
  2. Read the article out loud, looking for new vocabulary words.
  3. Whenever you read a word you do not know, stop and look it up in your own language English dictionary.
  4. Write the English words you do not know in a notebook with the meaning of the word in your own language.
  5. If a word you do not know is used more than twice in an article, put a check (check) by it for special study.
  6. You do not need to write names of places or people in your notebook.
  7. After you finish reading the article for the first time, review the meaning of all the new vocabulary words you wrote in your notebook. Study these words enough so that you know what they mean when you read the article.
  8. Read the entire article aloud for fluency practice. Read the article as smoothly as possible without stopping. Read it aloud twice. Your purpose is to read it so that an English speaking person could easily understand what you are saying.
  9. Read the article again for meaning. Always read aloud. If you do not understand a sentence, stop and figure out exactly what it means.
  10. If some of the meanings you have written in your notebook do not make sense in the article, look the word up again in your dictionary and see if it has other meanings. Write the meaning in your notebook that makes the most sense as a second meaning for that word.
  11. If you still cannot figure out the meaning of a sentence, it may be because two or three words are used together as an expression. Try to determine the meaning of expressions. Look for similar expressions in other articles. If you cannot determine the meaning of an expression, you may need to ask an English speaking person to help you.
  12. Try substituting other words while using the same expression. Say or write as many sentences using the expression as possible. For example, you may read a sentence in a newspaper which says, “Former Governor Mitchell announced on Friday he will not run for another term, putting to rest months of speculation about his future intentions.” “Putting to rest” is an expression which means “ending.” (The sentence means that the Governor was “ending months of speculation about his future intentions.”) Try writing sentences using the new expression. Most expressions can be used in different tenses with different people or things. For example, the expression “to put to rest” can be used in the present, “I want to put our disagreement to rest,” in the future, “he will put his argument to rest,” or in the past, “they finally put their rivalry to rest.”
  13. Many times, English uses forms of words as a type of expression. For example, you may read a sentence in a newspaper which says, “We’re getting all kinds of calls from people who are panicking and askingwhat they can do.” This form of expression uses two (or more) words ending in “…ing” to describe two (or more) actions that the same person is doing at one time. Substitute other words while using the same form of the expression. Try writing as many different sentences using the same form as possible. You might say, “Parents are taking their children from school and going home,” “The children were finishing their lessons and leaving for lunch,” or, “We were sitting on the grass, listening to the concert.”
  14. For more fluency practice, continue reading the article aloud until you can read it at the same speed that an English speaker talks. Practice until your pronunciation sounds like that of an English speaker.
  15. Your purpose is not merely to learn the vocabulary in these articles, but to learn to speak English. Keep practicing until you can read the article aloud so that an English speaking person can clearly understand what you are saying.
  16. Select other newspaper articles and continue reading aloud while you look for new vocabulary words. When you find a word in your notebook that you have already checked (check), place a second check (checkcheck) by it. Any word in your notebook with two checks should be memorized as an important word to know.

Best Institute of Spoken English in Jaipur

Jaipur has become the biggest place in India to get education.  Not only people of various states of India but from many other countries also come to this city to join colleges and training centers.
Due to economic revolution and globalization of business the importance of English Spoken Training in Jaipur  has risen manifold.  To fulfill the need of the people training centers of English are mushrooming all over the city.  You will rarely find a road in Delhi without an institute of English language.
MOST CENTERS TEACH BAD ENGLISH
But most of the training centers are being run by incompetent and incapable persons.  Joining such a center may not be good for your career.  But finding a good center is also a herculean task.
This reporter visited a large number of institutes and found that most of the centers are teaching incorrect English.  They fool the students with different tactics to take admissions and make money.
Samyak It Solutions Pvt Ltd ENGLISH TRAINING CENTERS
Samyak English learning centers in Jaipur are British Council , Inlingua, Veta, Wabs, BSL, and Bafel.   Most of other training institutes are not competent enough to impart valuable training.
Even very intelligent students of big institutes were found speaking incorrect English.  Big and reputed centers are also more interested in making money with high fee structure.  Remember,  only a big name does not guarantee quality coaching.
Actually it is not easy to teach good English in a short term course.  A person can become efficient in English language only after years of hard work. But due to stiff competition  institutes are compelled to lure students with short-term courses.
THE BEST OF THEM IS Samyak It Solutions
It is not easy to decide.  Still I found that Samyak, though not as big as many others,  is rising ahead in quality coaching.  Most of the students I talked to were very satisfied with the coaching.  The fee too is very reasonable.  But, it has regular training centers only in Jaipur.  Website: http://www.spokenenglishjaipur.com/

5 Great Ways to Improve Your Spoken English

Understanding English - or any second language - is one thing. Being able to speak it clearly and confidently is another. There are many great websites to help you learn English; the grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary. Often, though, when it comes to learning to SPEAK the language well, it's easy to find yourself feeling alone.

Here are 5 really good ways to improve your spoken English.

Method 1 - Listen to Native Speakers of English
This is important for two reasons. The first is that, if you are learning English with a teacher who is NOT a native speaker, you will be picking up mistakes as well as valuable information. You will be learning to speak English with the accent of your teacher, and NOT the accent of a native speaker.
What usually happens is that non-native speakers of English actually produce sounds in a different area of the mouth to native speakers, which his why second language speakers often find English sounds like 'r', 'n', 'w' and 'th' difficult or even impossible to say. They will copy their teacher and make a guess at it, often without getting it right. The second reason that this is important is that by listening carefully to native speakers, you will hear the flow and the 'music' of the language. This is something that you HAVE to hear - you cannot learn it from books and newspapers.

Method 2 - Just Say It!
Does this sound familiar? You've decided you're going to practice speaking English...you've thought about what you want to say..you wait for your moment to speak, and when it comes...you say nothing. I've done this, when learning French and Spanish, and I'm sure you have too. Why do we do this? Usually we are worried in case we make a mistake, in case we get it wrong, or in case the other person misunderstands, or laughs. FEAR prevents us from practice. Just take a deep breath and SAY IT. It doesn't matter if it doesn't sound perfect, just say it. Speaking out loud is the only way to improve your spoken English (or my French and Spanish!). The good news is, the more you do it, the easier it gets, and the more confident you become.

Method 3 - Act A Little!
This one might seem strange, but a good way of improving your English is to act a little. For example, to learn a British English accent, you might pretend that you are 'Lord or Lady so-and-so', or another suitable character. Imagine how they would talk: how clearly and precisely would they form their words? This isn't as crazy as it sounds. Many people are nervous about speaking out loud because they are embarrassed or even surprised by the new sounds that they are making. Putting those sounds into a 'character' like this can be a useful way of getting over those nerves. You probably wouldn't want to speak in this voice all the time, but it's a good way to practice on your own!

Linked to this idea about acting, is to focus on the mouth positions needed to speak good, clear English. Make these mouth positions bigger than they need to be when you practice them. Really get used to how the English sounds are made, and how they differ from the same sounds made in your own language. This will go some way towards helping you reduce your accent and the Mother Tongue Influence (MTI) on your spoken English.

Method 4 - Ask!
This is an obvious one...BUT it's one that many people overlook!! How many times have you had a question about speaking better English, you've typed it into a search engine, and seen which answers most closely match your questions? What about using this as a starting point and ASKING the information provider your own question? It's a good idea to make sure that your question has a chance of being answered, though - there are many forums where questions can sit for days or even weeks without an answer, and you might not want to wait that long.

There are many people (myself included) with blogs, YouTube channels, twitter and Facebook pages who can and will answer any questions that you have. Sometimes it's easier to ask someone over the internet than put your hand up in class! Perhaps more importantly, we'll either be able to provide you with specific answers, or your questions can be answered in way which will help other learners too.

Method 5 - Sign Up and Subscribe!
I'm sure many of you may already be doing this. Find those useful websites and blogs, and subscribe. That way you'll receive ongoing, useful information to help you improve your spoken English, as well as invitations to online events...AND the opportunity to connect with other learners around the world, and swap ideas. You'll find many opportunities online to hear native speakers speaking in real time in broadcasts of this sort. Choosing one that's about English speaking is obviously a good choice: the host will be speaking slowly and clearly so you can hear and understand as much as possible.

It's also useful to sign up for podcasts etc that are in English but on any subject matter of interest. These will probably be more of a challenge, as you will hear English spoken at a more natural pace. However, if your goal is to learn business English, then listening in to a call about business issues will not only be a chance for you to hear the language spoken at a natural speed, you'll learn some new vocabulary too.

On international calls, listen carefully to the differences between native speakers, and those speaking English as a second language. LISTENING, as you'll already be aware, is a critical part of improving the way you SPEAK. Above all, use this as an extra opportunity to PRACTICE wherever you can. Make sure that the knowledge in your head actually comes out of your mouth!

How to Improve Written & Spoken English

English is a complex language full of rules and accompanying exceptions.
